PhD Position in Theoretical Materials Research
University of Freiburg Freiburg Materials Research Center

The Freiburg Materials Research Center (FMF) is offering a position for a scientist to do a PhD work in theoretical materials research. | term for filing application: 14.08.2020
Consider making the switch to the University of Freiburg: It is one of the most renowned and strongest research universities in Germany, with a history spanning more than 500 years. You'll engage in top-notch research and teaching with a unique spectrum of disciplines, perspectives, and people - right in the heart of one of Germany's most beautiful cities.

The University of Freiburg's human resources policy is oriented toward the principles of equal opportunity and diversity. The university is committed to the goal of creating a family-friendly university.

The Freiburg Materials Research Center (FMF) is offering a position for a

scientist to do a PhD work in theoretical materials research.
Part-time position (80 %), Start-date: At the earliest possible date.

The FMF and partners in Karlsruhe and Freiburg are conducting both experimental and theoretical research on

“Electrode materials for Lithium ion batteries”

within a project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The purpose of this project is the development of crystalline network structures with low mechanical deformability at high ionic conductivity. The partners of the FMF are at the Institute for Applied Materials of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM in Freiburg.

Relationships between crystal structure, ionic conductivity, and mechanical deformability of such electrode materials as function of the chemical composition are investigated at the FMF and the IWM (group “Materials Modeling”) by means of first-principles calculations with density functional theory (DFT) and atomistic simulations with empirical interatomic potentials.

For this theoretical task as a PhD work we are looking for a

Theoretical Physicist or Chemist.

As applicant, you have got an academic degree in Physics or Chemistry which entitles you for PhD admission in Physics at the University of Freiburg. You are well trained and skilled in scientific research, highly interested and knowledgeable in theoretical solid-state physics and computer simulations, and motivated to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team.

The contract duration for this PhD position will be initially 2 years. The salary will be determined in accordance with TV-L E13.
We are particularly pleased to receive applications from women for the position advertised here.
Please send your application including supporting documents mentioned above citing the reference number 00001134, by 14.08.2020 at the latest. Please send your application to the following address in written or electronic form:
