Post-Doctoral Researcher “Robotic Fabrication” (f/m/d)



The Augmented Fabrication Lab (TT Professorship Digital Fabrication), led by Dr. Kathrin Dörfler, is looking for a full-time Post-Doctoral Researcher to participate in building up the newly established research group. The group will be engaged with the development of novel construction processes in the cross section of architecture, robotics, and human-computer interaction and their potential impact to on-site applications. The chair is based at the Department of Architecture at TUM, and Affiliate Member to the Department of Civil, Geo and Environmental Engineering. The position is to start in July 2019, or upon agreement.


Task description

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with an academic track record in the interdisciplinary field of computational design and robotic fabrication. Your tasks include the acquisition, development, and the processing of research projects from the area of robotic on-site fabrication, participation in teaching such as the creation and the supervision of a seminar and design research studio, and knowledge transfer in the academic and non-academic environment.



Applicants should hold a PhD in architecture, digital fabrication, or related fields. We expect sound programming skills (primarily in Python and/or C#), and experience in digital fabrication. An interest in robotics and mechanical engineering is desirable, experience in architectural project development and construction is an advantage. You should demonstrate a high level of initiative, be fluent in English, and enjoy working in an interdisciplinary research team.


We offer

We offer a full-time position as Postdoctoral researcher at the renowned research facility of TUM. The employment takes place with the appropriate remuneration according to the collective agreement for the civil service of the countries (TV-L). The position is limited to three years.
