UNSW School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering (SPREE) is one of the eight schools within the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW. SPREE grew out of the Australian Research Council Photovoltaics Centre of Excellence in response to the growing renewable energy industry. Building on world-leading research, including holding the record for the most efficient silicon solar cell for over two decades, the school attracts leading international researchers in photovoltaic and renewable energy. The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct research in the ‘Efficient Adamantine Thin-Film on Silicon Tandem Cells’ project, focusing on the photovoltaic materials and devices. The academic is expected to carry out activities that will develop their scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally.

About the role

  • $96K plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Fixed Term – 14 months
  • Full time (35 hours)

The role of Postdoctoral Fellow reports to A/Prof Xiaojing Hao and has no direct reports.

Specific responsibilities for this role include: 

  • Conduct research in the area of Adamantine Thin-Film on Silicon Tandem Cells independently and as part of a team.
  • Actively engage with the community and industry to develop significant productive relationships and participate in professional activities.
  • Contribute to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals and progress reporting to other researchers and industry partners.
  • Assist with the coordination of research activities and actively contribute to research outputs to meet project milestones. Contribute to the preparation of research proposal submissions to funding bodies and actively seek collaboration with industry partners as appropriate.
  • Participate in and/or present at conferences and/or workshops relevant to the project as required.
  • Assist with the supervision of research students in the research area where required.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others. 

About the successful applicant

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • PhD (or soon to be awarded) in Photovoltaics or related area.
  • Research experience (including the PhD) in the development of Adamantine thin-film top cells for Si tandem cells of at least 2 years.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
