About This Opportunity

The School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to assist with biomedical engineering-related research on a 3-year externally-funded research project which seeks to combine physiological insight and artificial intelligence to develop and evaluate novel computational tools in Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.

The successful applicant will be responsible for working collaboratively within the project team, conducting high quality research and contributing to the preparation of research proposals. The successful applicant will also be required to supervise the research activities of undergraduate, Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, as appropriate.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

To be successful in this position the applicant should possess a PhD in Biomedical Engineering or a related field such as Medical Physics or Mathematical Physiology combined with demonstrated expert knowledge and a publication track-record in the field of polysomnographic signal analysis, or bio-signal analysis in a related area.

The applicant should be familiar with biosignal analysis techniques (such as machine learning methods, biomedical signal processing or physiological modelling); as well as broad scientific interest and curiosity towards developing supervised, unsupervised, and semisupervised approaches for signal analysis, characterisation of overnight recording, and ultimately, the development of clinically applicable diagnostic tools. Developed professional contacts with leading researchers in the field of sleep medicine is desirable.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position at Academic level A.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $88,411 - $94,637, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $103,442 - $110,726
