The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta invites applications to fill a full-time Professor-of-Practice position to begin September 2019. This position will be primarily responsible for delivering a newly developed capstone design course in the undergraduate program spanning the fall and winter semesters and involving over 100 students in civil engineering. The professor will be responsible for compiling the project material, be the lead instructor of the course, coordinating course delivery with other instructors, guiding student teams, assessing performance and reporting the associate chair on the delivery on all accreditation design requirements. Other duties include teaching graduate courses, collaborating with other faculty members on research projects and providing services within the University and the industry.

 

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D degree in Civil Engineering, with a minimum of 10 years practical experience as a lead design engineer or design manager for civil infrastructure. Preference will be given to those have have demonstrated teaching, and research experience or have experience with working on national (Canadian) design standards committees.

 

The candidate must have a professional engineering designation in Canada (e.g. APEGA in Alberta). Leadership and communication skills as well as a demonstrated ability to network with the professional community in Edmonton will be an asset.

 

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (including School of Mining & Petroleum Engineering) is committed to securing a position along leading schools in North America.
