Professor (W3) for Micro- and Nanoelectronic Systems

Job description: The Professorship (W3) is combined with heading the Institute of
Micro- and Nanoelectronic Systems (IMS).

Applicants are to represent the area of state-of-the-art micro- and
nanoelectronics in research, academic education, and innovation.

They should have vast expertise and high reputation in one or several
of the following fields of work of micro- and nanoelectronics beyond
today’s CMOS technology:

 Novel, e.g. superconducting, components and circuits for
future quantum information technologies;

 Highly precise and ultrafast detectors with a resolution near
the quantum limit for fundamental research and technical

 Nanoelectronic structures, components, circuits, and
associated nanotechnological fabrication methods for future

Candidates should have internationally outstanding scientific
qualification, excellent didactic skills, and leadership experience.

Expertise in application-oriented research, in the acquisition of thirdparty funds, and in technology transfer (e.g. spinoffs) is desired. KIT
offers an excellent interdisciplinary environment at the interface of
engineering and natural sciences, among others within the KIT
Centers of Information – Systems – Technologies (KCIST),
Elementary Particle and Astroparticle Physics (KCETA), and
Materials. In future, the professor is to participate in the
multidisciplinary “Karlsruhe Center for Optics & Photonics“ (KCOP)
that is presently being established and in the development of its
research areas.

In the area of academic education, candidates are expected to
actively participate in existing and new German and English study
programs offered by the KIT Department of Electrical Engineering
and Information Technology as well as in related programs offered by
other departments of KIT. Apart from practice-oriented and
specialization courses in the area of the professorship, this also
includes basic lectures of bachelor’s programs.

Qualification: A “Habilitation” degree or equivalent scientific and teaching
qualifications are required. The conditions of employment are
according to § 47 LHG (Law of Baden-Württemberg on Universities
and Colleges).
