The Faculty of Electrical and Information Engineering of Graz University of Technology is seeking to
appoint a full


University Professor of Acoustics


at the Signal Processing and Speech Communication Laboratory, starting October 1, 2020. The position
is tenured according to Section 98 of the Austrian Universities Act 2002 (§98 UG).
For this position, we are seeking a highly qualified and scientifically well-established individual who is
deeply committed to representing the field of „Engineering Acoustics“ both in teaching and in research
and who brings along experience in music.


The research and teaching responsibilities of Engineering Acoustics include the theory and practice of
creating tools for investigating acoustic phenomena and the application of acoustic knowledge to
practical utility. This includes the design and modelling of acoustical and vibrational transducers,
acoustic arrays and transduction systems in all media and frequency ranges; measurement and
computational techniques related to acoustic phenomena and their application; and the engineering
of acoustic materials and devices.


Cooperation with existing research groups of the Faculty and Graz University of Technology (a.o. room
acoustics, noise-vibration-harshness, soundproofing and psychoacoustics in traffic) is just as welcome
as is the cooperation with regional and international industries, other universities and research
institutions.


In terms of teaching, both the fundamentals and areas of specialization are to be represented in
accordance with the above-mentioned core topics; the inter-university course of studies in Electrical
Engineering and Audio Engineering is to be coordinated and further developed in the role of the
mastermind, including the operation of a sound recording studio for teaching purposes. Candidates
are expected to have experience in and the willingness to teaching and interdisciplinary collaboration,
as well as intensive interaction with students and active participation in university affairs.
Applicants must have earned a doctorate (Ph.D.) in the required discipline or in a closely related field
from an Austrian or equivalent foreign university.


Key selection criteria are as follows:
 Outstanding scientific qualifications (as evidenced by a habilitation or equivalent scientific
achievements)
 Involvement in international research
 Excellent didactic skills
 Experience in university-level teaching
 Education in music
 Gender and diversity competencies
 Qualification and suitability for leading a research team/university institute
 Experience in cooperation with companies, research institutions or universities
 Successful experience in the acquisition of third-party funds


The chosen candidate should have a strong command of the English language, written and spoken, so
to effectively represent and communicate the subject matter in an international context both in the
classroom and in the research field. If the candidate does not yet have sufficient knowledge of the
German language, he or she must be willing to pursue and acquire said language skills.


The chosen candidate is expected to relocate his or her main residence to the Graz area.
