ten­ure track pro­fess­or­ship, remu­ner­a­tion group W1, fixed term, to be con­tin­ued as a life­time pro­fess­or­ship, remu­ner­a­tion group W3
in "Machines and Tech­no­logy for Addit­ive Man­u­fac­tur­ing of pre­cise Metal­lic Com­pon­ents“.

This pro­fess­or­ship should be seen in the con­text of Tech­nis­che Uni­versität Ber­lin’s goal to recruit and advance junior schol­ars in the early stage of their career. The ten­ure track pro­fess­or­ship is ini­tially lim­ited to three years. The pos­i­tion shall be renewed for a fur­ther three years con­di­tional upon the pos­tholder’s per­form­ance and agree­ment. After six years, as a rule, a lifelong pro­fess­or­ship will be offered con­di­tional upon the ful­fill­ment of the determ­ined eval­u­ation cri­teria and hir­ing require­ments for a lifelong pro­fess­or­ship. Work­ing field:

Per­form research and teach­ing (Ger­man and Eng­lish lan­guage) in the field of addit­ive man­u­fac­tur­ing of pre­cise metal­lic com­pon­ents. The task of the pro­fess­or­ship to be filled is the devel­op­ment of machine tools and ded­ic­ated tech­no­logy for addit­ive man­u­fac­tur­ing of pre­ci­sion metal­lic com­pon­ents with respect to innov­at­ive pro­cess chains. Here, a hol­istic approach for addit­ive man­u­fac­tur­ing pro­cesses con­cern­ing the many and vari­ous cor­rel­a­tions between pro­cess design, machine tool, pro­cess con­trol, geo­metry, pre­ci­sion post-machin­ing, pro­cess and pro­duc­tion meas­ure­ment tech­no­logy and the res­ult­ing com­pon­ent char­ac­ter­ist­ics in estab­lished and new developed tech­no­lo­gies is of par­tic­u­lar import­ance. The con­sid­er­a­tion of the addit­ive man­u­fac­tur­ing pro­cess chain with regard to fur­ther pro­cessing by pre­ci­sion mech­an­ical cut­ting and non-con­ven­tional tech­no­lo­gies as well as the influ­ence on the com­pon­ent and the meas­ure­ment tech­no­logy will also be sub­ject of the pro­fess­or­ship. Cur­riculum devel­op­ment and par­ti­cip­a­tion in col­lab­or­at­ive research and aca­demic com­mit­tees are also part of the respons­ib­il­it­ies.

Require­ments:

Can­did­ates must ful­fill the hir­ing require­ments pur­su­ant to Sec­tion 102c Ber­lin State Higher Edu­ca­tion Act in com­bin­a­tion with Sec­tion 102a Ber­lin State Higher Edu­ca­tion Act. Of par­tic­u­lar import­ance are a uni­versity degree in Mech­an­ical Engin­eer­ing or Pro­duc­tion Tech­no­logy, a strong aptitude for research demon­strated, as a rule, by an out­stand­ing doc­tor­ate as well as teach­ing skills demon­strated by a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for fur­ther inform­a­tion about the port­fo­lio, see Tech­nis­che Uni­versität Ber­lin’s web­site under https://www.tu-berlin.de/neuberufene/berufungsportal/bewerbung/lehrportfolio/ ).
The future holder of the pos­i­tion is expec­ted to have proven sci­entific know­ledge in the above-men­tioned field from fun­da­mental or applied research. Fur­ther­more, above-aver­age research and pub­lic­a­tion achieve­ments, suc­cess­ful acquis­i­tion of third-party or indus­trial fund­ing, as well as a high rel­ev­ance to the applic­a­tion-rel­ev­ant prob­lems and chal­lenges in the field of addit­ive man­u­fac­tur­ing of pre­cise metal com­pon­ents would be bene­fi­cial. Moreover, applic­ants should have present­a­tion exper­i­ence at pres­ti­gi­ous inter­na­tional con­fer­ences. Like­wise, exper­i­ence in the imple­ment­a­tion of national and inter­na­tional third-party fun­ded and indus­trial pro­jects should be avail­able. Ini­tial teach­ing exper­i­ence provides a solid found­a­tion. Gender and diversity com­pet­ence as well as engage­ment in sci­ence com­mu­nic­a­tion and know­ledge and/or tech­no­logy trans­fer com­plete your pro­file. For non-Ger­man speak­ing applic­ants, a com­mit­ment to learn Ger­man quickly is expec­ted. A very good know­ledge of Eng­lish is desir­able.
