Professorship in “Polymers and Polymer Processing(W2 with Tenure Track W3)

funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States (”WISNA”) to start as soon as possible.

The professorship at Technische Universität (TU) Braunschweig is located at the Open Hybrid LabFactory (OHLF) and organisationally attributed to the Institute for Materials. At the OHLF, product design and production techniques are explored with a focus on producing material-hybrids based on functional requirements. In this context, plastics along with the interaction between structure, properties and production processes play a central role. Correspondingly, the professorship is expected to conduct basic research on at least two of the following subjects:

  • Modification of plastics based on functional requirements
  • Microstructure and mechanical properties of plastics
  • Characterization and modeling of the process-structure interaction
  • Processing of plastics with emphasis on functionally integrated lightweight construction

In addition to the research work at the OHLF, there are many opportunities for cooperation in conjunction with the other research areas and centers of the TU Braunschweig. In teaching, plastics and plastics technology should be represented in its entire range in the bachelor and master programs of mechanical engineering, transportation engineering, aerospace and automotive engineering.

We are seeking for a scientist with expertise in the mentioned research areas. Required are ability and success in the acquisition, execution and management of interdisciplinary research projects as well as pedagogical and didactical skills. The willingness to closely collaborate in research and education with the working groups within and outside the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering as well as the other institutes and partners within the OHLF is expected.

The professor´s initial appointment is limited to five years. In accordance with the tenure track statutes of TU Braunschweig, the appointment will be tenured at the level W3 after positive tenure track evaluation. Applicants should still be in their early career. The requirements of the position are defined in Sections 25 and 28 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz).

It stands for a strategic and achievement-oriented way of thinking and acting, relevant research, exceptional teaching and the successful transfer of knowledge and technologies to industry and society. We consistently advocate family friendliness and equal opportunities.

We focus our research on mobility, infections and therapeutics, metrology, and future city. Our core disciplines include a comprehensive engineering branch and a strong natural sciences branch, closely linked with business sciences, social sciences, humanities and educational sciences.

Our campus is located at the heart of one of Europe’s most active research regions. We cooperate closely and successfully with more than 20 research institutions right on our doorstep and maintain strong relationships with our partner universities all over the world.

At TU Braunschweig, we aim to increase the share of women in academic positions and therefore particularly welcome applications from women. Where candidates have equivalent qualifications, preference will be given to female candidates. Applications from international scientists are welcome.
