This position will be based at the Bay Campus , Swansea University and is fixed term until 30 September 2020

This will be part of two operations. "ASTUTE 2020" (Advanced Sustainable Manufacturing Technologies) is an established operation that has followed a successful formula for operation since 2010 and has earned a strong reputation for the quality of its industrial collaboration. It focusses on companies in West Wales and the Valleys. "ASTUTE EAST" is a new operation that will deal with companies in East Wales. ASTUTE EAST and ASTUTE 2020 have been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.


Energy conversion and storage systems research is required to support growing demand for portable energy supplies for a range of devices, in relation to the aims of ASTUTE 2020/ASTUTE EAST.


This position requires expertise mainly in the field of electrochemical energy conversion and storage systems. This will include expertise in fuel cells, batteries, nano materials, electrocatalysis, organic-inorganic hybrid materials, nanocomposite membranes. The postholder will need to undertake research in these areas and will be expected to publish findings.


Person Specification


Essential Criteria


A PhD or equivalent in an Engineering or Science discipline.


Experience of research in electrochemical energy conversion and storage systems including fuel cells, batteries, nano materials, electrocatalysis, organic-inorganic hybrid materials, nanocomposite membranes.


Ability to handle scientific equipment and perform experimental techniques related to energy conversion and storage systems.


Evidence of the ability to actively engage in and contribute to writing research publications and reports.


The Project Officer will manage their own technical activities in terms of applied research and industrial collaborative R&D projects with a variety of companies and prepare papers for publication in refereed journals and identify and pursue registration of intellectual property where appropriate
