A Project Scientist provides technical or specialized expertise (e.g., with instrumentation, data management or other research methods) in the execution of a research project, or in an outreach project that contains a research component, typically under direction of a PI, and makes project contributions that are at least sufficient to receive formal acknowledgement in publications. The Project Scientist will work with researchers and students as part of a team to develop new features, test, and maintain the gem5 infrastructure. The Project Scientist will conduct research into improving tools for computer architecture simulation and software engineering with a focus on simulation and open source projects. gem5 is an open source computer system simulator (gem5.org) used as a tool by the computer architecture research community and other related computer systems fields. gem5 has been cited by academic papers over 2900 times and is used in both academia, industry, and government research labs. Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or other fields that may meet the needs of the department. For consideration at the Associate or Full Project Scientist rank, a minimum of 2-5 years of postdoctoral experience is required. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong record of refereed journal publications in the Computer Science field.
