Job descriptionJob summaryThe Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking a Research Assistant or Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join the Clean Energy Processes (CEP) Laboratory a dynamic, multidisciplinary team performing internationally leading research into the development and application of advanced optical measurement methods to heated or cooled two-phase interfacial flows with phase change, including boiling and freezing. Duties and responsibilitiesYou will construct or modify, as appropriate, dedicated flow facilities and pursue investigations of two-phase interfacial flows with advanced laser-diagnostic techniques and other optical methods, such as infrared imaging. The post involves the generation of highly detailed, previously unavailable information in spatiotemporally evolving complex two-phase interfacial flow systems with phase change, with a specific focus on both boiling and freezing. Essential requirementsYou should have a PhD (or equivalent) in Chemical/Mechanical engineering, or in a related field of study. You are also expected to have a strong foundation in fluid mechanics, two-phase flows, transport and heat transfer, and extensive experience in experimental flow measurement techniques, ideally in advanced laser-based and other optical-diagnostics for the space/time-resolved measurement of phase (interfaces) and velocity fields, as well as temperature and concentration fields as these apply to heated or cooled flows with phase change. Further information* Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant within the salary range £35,477 - £38,566 per annum. This post is fixed term for 12 months, starting on 1 September 2020 or shortly thereafter subject to agreement, and will be based in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London (South Kensington Campus). For informal enquiries about the post, please contact: Professor Christos Markides (c.markides@imperial.ac.uk). To apply, please select the "Apply now" button at the top of this page. Please ensure you include a completed application form with your submission. Further information about the post is available in the job description. Should you have any queries about the application process please contact: chemeng.staffing@imperial.ac.uk. Closing date: Midnight on 03 September 2020 For technical issues when applying online, please contact: recruitment@imperial.ac.uk Additional Information The College is a proud signatory to the San-Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), which means that in hiring and promotion decisions, we evaluate applicants on the quality of their work, not the journal impact factor where it is published. Animals may only be used in research programmes where their use is shown to be necessary for developing new treatments and making medical advances. Imperial is committed to ensuring that, in cases where this research is deemed essential, all animals in the College’s care are treated with full respect, and that all staff involved with this work show due consideration at every level. www.imperial.ac.uk/research-and-innovation/about-imperial-research/research-integrity/animal-research
