Job description

The Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking a Research Assistant/Associate to join Science for Clean Energy (S4CE), a multidisciplinary consortium established to understand fundamental mechanisms underpinning sub-surface geo-energy operations, including fluid transport and reactivity in porous media. The project is funded by the European Commission and involves various European academic institutions in addition to industrial partners with active field operations (carbon sequestration, enhanced geothermal energy, enhanced oil recovery and natural gas production).

Duties and responsibilities

Your main responsibilities will be:

To carry out gas sorption experiments on geo-sorbents using both gravimetric and X-ray CT-based methods.
To analyse the experimental data using both theoretical and numerical approaches.
To publish the work in international refereed journals and present it at relevant international conferences.
The key requirements for the post are:

Proven world-class research track record in any of the above areas, as evidenced by first-author publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Proven experience in the experimental characterisation of gas adsorption and/or transport in porous materials.
Essential requirements
The post is hosted under the supervision of Dr Ronny Pini and focuses on the study of the sorption properties of porous geomaterials, including clay-rich rocks, at subsurface conditions. You will use experimental facilities in the laboratory of the PI to carry out these measurements using various gases at elevated pressures. Applications are encouraged from candidates with or near completion of a PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
