Research Assistant/Associate in Gas Turbine Ignition Modelling (Fixed Term)

A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on Gas Turbine Ignition Modelling.


The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.


The position is funded by the European Union (Clean Sky) and involves development and usage of low-order ignition models and Large-Eddy Simulations with advanced turbulent combustion models for ignition of kerosene spray flames in gas turbine combustors.


The successful candidate must have or be close to obtaining a PhD in turbulent combustion modelling, with special emphasis on gas turbine combustion, and with very good knowledge of high-performance computing, CFD codes, and ignition phenomena. Excellent writing and presentation skills are essential.


Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.


Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £26,243 - £30,395 Research Associate: £32,236 - £39,609


Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 December 2020 in the first instance.
