Job description


Applications are invited for a Research Associate position to work at Imperial College London, at the South Kensington Campus. The main role of the post holder is to undertake work on the use of ionic liquids for waste plastic recycling. This post will cut across objectives in a larger UKRI funded research programme involving several UK universities, international companies, and partner institutions in several countries worldwide.

 

Duties and responsibilities


Our role in the project is to design, synthesize and test ionic liquids for the recycling of post-consumer plastic waste. These will then be applied to chemocatalytic and biocatalytic recycling of waste plastics.

 

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

 

Working with project partners on improving existing approaches
Design new solutions and systems based on ionic liquids and polymers
Formulate and test these systems on recycling

 

Essential requirements


The successful candidate will have a first degree (or equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related discipline and be near completion or hold a PhD (or equivalent) in the field of ionic liquids or a similar topic. You will have knowledge of plastic manufacturing and recycling strategies as well as synthetic chemistry.

You will be able to perform experiments in a wet chemistry lab and all accompanying analytical chemistry techniques, produce clear written reports and presentations and have the ability to collect and manipulate data.
