Job summary

Applications are invited for a fully funded 16-month position at the Research Associate level (informally known as “PostDoc”). The post is funded by the UKRI New Horizon grant EP/X017249/1 on “Can quantum algorithms revolutionise the simulation of turbulent flows?”. The over-arching goal is to develop quantum algorithms and deliver the first quantum-enhanced computational fluid dynamics solver.

This project will pioneer a research field: quantum-enhanced computational fluid dynamics (q-CFD) of turbulence. There will be opportunities of close interactions with the Alan Turing Institute, the UK national institute in Artificial Intelligence, and the PI’s relevant academic network in the UK, EU, and US. Funding is available for travelling and IT facilities for research-related tasks. The Research Associate is expected to produce results suitable for presentation in international conferences and publication in leading peer-reviewed journals/conferences.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop and implement quantum algorithms for computational fluid dynamics
  • Disseminate research with peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations (with the PI)
  • Publish and maintain the open-source code, after publication
  • Assist and informally co-advise one PhD student, who will be working on a similar topic

Essential requirements

Those appointed at Research Associate level

Hold a PhD (or equivalent doctorate degree) in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computing, or a closely related discipline.

Those appointed at Research Assistant level

A first / masters degree (or equivalent doctorate degree) in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computing, or a closely related discipline.

This post is a full time, fixed-term contract for 16 months from the starting date. You will be based at South Kensington Campus. 

*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £38,194 - £41,388 per annum.
