Applications are invited for the above position to join the Manufacturing Metrology Team (MMT), as part of the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing, at the University of Nottingham. The Manufacturing Metrology Team conducts fundamental research to enable the next-generation of off-line and in-line metrology tools for advanced manufacturing methods with focus on precision manufacturing and additive manufacturing. MMT has recently been awarded a grant to establish the Midlands Centre for Data-driven Metrology – a collaboration beween Nottingham, Loguhborough University and Coventry University. The Centre will work with local industrial partners to help them take up technologies that allow the adoption of Industry 4.0. This includes research, service provision and training.

The Research Associate/Fellow will conduct industrial research into theoretical and practical development of optical technologies for coordinate measurement in advanced manucturing. It is essential that the candidate has a track record of working with industrial partners.

Candidates must have an MSc and a PhD (or be about to obtain) in optical metrology/sensing, physics or engineering. Strong skills in optics and point cloud analysis are essential. It is also expected that the candidate will demonstrate high level communication and organisational skills and an aptitude for liaison with industrial partners.

This full-time (36.25 hours per week) post is available from October 2020 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period 36 months, with potential extensions to be discussed. Job share arrangements may be considered.
