Fixed-term for a maximum of 25 months to end no later than 28 February 2022.

An ambitious postdoctoral Research Associate is being sought to work on the development of energy efficient laser-based manufacturing processes. The project will develop suitable models for understanding energy (and carbon) requirements of existing laser processes before optimizing and implementing efficiency improvements in laboratory and industrial environments. The project will primarily focus on, but not necessarily be limited to, welding and surface annealing.

The Research Associate will work within a multi-disciplinary, international collaboration and will be expected to travel to China for annual meetings and research visits.

A PhD in a relevant engineering field (or equivalent experience) with relevant experience in laser systems and process energy modeling is essential as are excellent communication skills and an ability to write technical reports. Applicants should have practical experience of experimental design and in working within or alongside industry.
