Research Associate in Fibre-Optic Communication Systems
University of Cambridge
United Kingdom

As part of an exciting new centre established between BT, Huawei and the University of Cambridge, we wish to recruit a postdoctoral researcher at Research Associate level or Senior Research Associate level for exceptional candidates to conduct research into fibre-optic communication systems.

The project is focused on high capacity optical networks which includes both transceiver and networking aspects. This post is for a postdoctoral researcher focussed on transceiver design for high capacity optical networks, including modulation, coding and digital signal processing with a view of maximising the data throughput of the nonlinear dispersive optical channel. Other members of the wider team will be exploring networking aspects including optimising utilisation the physical network resources as well as extending beyond the current single mode C-band based networks.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge Cambridgeshire, UK.

The key responsibilities and duties are research into transceivers for high capacity optical networking and liaising with project partners.

Candidates must have obtained a PhD degree in Engineering or a related scientific discipline. They should have experience of digital communications and signal processing optical fibre communication systems and knowledge of digital coherent transceivers and associated digital signal processing. Candidates must have a demonstrable ability to communicate with industrial partners, a record of publishing high quality research in high quality journals and at the leading conferences in the field. They must be able to demonstrate the ability to collaborate broadly within the field.

Salary Range: Research Associate £32,816 - £40,322
Senior Research Associate £41,526 - £52,559

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 24 November 2021 in the first instance.
