Salary

    £27025 to £39609 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £30,395 with relevant PhD). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

 

Applications are invited for the above post based at Jubilee Campus, Nottingham to undertake research within the Nottingham Geospatial Institute (NGI) related to a recently funded 2-year European Space Agency (ESA) project concerning key technologies for connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV). The CoDRIVE (Cooperative Development of a Roadmap for Initial V2X Implementation in Europe) project is led by UbiPOS UK Ltd with collaboration from academia and other industrial partners. It aims to enhance the development of the proof-of-concept low-cost positioning and communication platform produced in the ESA funded kick-start project (i.e. CoDRIVE Kick Start) by UbiPOS. Led by them we will further expand this into a comprehensive hardware and software platform. The key and single most important objective for CoDRIVE is the exploitation of a reliable, robust and resilient absolute positioning system for intelligent mobility services (IMS). The precise localisation and vehicle-to-everything communication (V2X) are based on the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), particularly the future European GNSS (EGNSS) (i.e., Galileo, EGNOS v3), precision mapping and pervasive wireless communications.

 

For the NGI work in CoDRIVE, a key challenge will be to ensure precise real-time positioning and navigation through integrated localisation techniques and wireless connectivity mainly implemented by 5G. In this respect, the successful candidate will work in the University of Nottingham’s NGI and will be responsible for integrating sensor data and producing dynamic maps and data visualisation. Such studies will aim to provide contextual intelligence relating to the driving environment to aid positioning of vehicles on the road and relative to each other. In addition, research will consider the critical issues for vehicle to vehicle (V2V), vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle to anything communications (V2X).

 

Candidates must have an MSc or a PhD (or about to obtain), in relevant fields such as Global Navigation Satellite Systems, transport engineering, surveying and mapping, electronic engineering, computer science or location based big data analytics and visualisation. Experience related to positioning and navigation or precision mapping for future automated vehicles is essential. The candidate will be expected to have strong skills related to a range of geospatial technologies and services.

 

This full-time, fixed-term post is available immediately and will be offered for a period of 24 months. Job Share arrangements may be considered.
