Job Type
£27511 to £32817 per annum, (pro rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £30942 with relevant PhD).

The purpose of this role will be to have specific responsibility for developing research objectives and proposals in the area of mathematical modelling and physics of Meta-surfaces. The project will be developed around the fascinating idea of Object Illusion in Complex Electromagnetic Wave Environments (OBLICUE), funded by the EPSRC New Horizons scheme.

The candidate will join the wave modelling research group (WAMO, they will be part of a vibrant team of several doctoral and post-doctoral researchers working across a broad range of wave modelling problems.

A candidate will be sought with a strong background in electromagnetism or wave physics, with a track record of innovative thinking, good communication skills and ability in scientific writing. Specific skills necessary to develop the theory of object illusion centres around: - Extensive knowledge of random matrix theory approaches, including supersymmetry and free probability approaches.; - Good knowledge of electromagnetic meta-material physics and mathematical modelling.

Key stakeholders include Academic (Maxwell Centre, University of Cambridge; Department of Mathematics, King’s College of London) and Industrial (British Telecommunications, DSTL) Partners.

The person appointed will be expected to plan and conduct work using approaches or methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of research and will be responsible for writing up their work for publication.

The person appointed will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods and extend their research portfolio.
