iPrint is a research institute for digital printing and coating with a clear focus on inkjet technology. The institute is part of the Haute école d’ingénierie et d’architecture de Fribourg, a member of the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland. With a team of more than 30 persons, iPrint offers applied research to national and international industry partners in a wide range of applications, where inkjet is involved such as digital printing, printed electronics, coating, additive manufacturing and bioprinting. iPrint is the worldwide leader in inkjet training and among the five most important inkjet centers in the world.


To support iPrint in being one of the key players in the future to drive inkjet technology and access new emerging markets, we are seeking for a creative and experienced inkjet print head research engineer.

Mission and Scope of Activities

As a staff member of our research team, you help to provide high quality results in research and teaching through your broad expertise in inkjet technology. Your main task will be the development of new print heads offering extended capabilities and new features beyond the standard.

Tasks that fall within your area of responsibility are:

  • Print head design (70%)
  • Develop relationships with print head manufacturers (10%)
  • Develop industry contacts (5%)
  • Teaching in the inkjet training center (5%)
  • Publications and conference contributions (5%)
  • Supervision of student projects (5%)

As our core specialist on inkjet print heads, you will support our application oriented research groups working on new inkjet research topics and provide the optimal print head features.

Your profile

For this position, we are looking for a print head research engineer with a degree in either printing, mechatronics, chemistry or material sciences. A PhD is appreciated but not mandatory.


We expect that you …

  • have worked several years in the design and development of inkjet print heads
  • have a broad network to worldwide inkjet industry
  • have good relationship and high-level access to several print head manufacturers
  • have good connections to Japan in terms of print head manufacturers, academic institutes and
  • propose creative ideas to solve challenging problems and to progress in technology and applications beyond the state of the art of existing print heads
  • are used to deliver results on time and in high quality, even in a vibrant project environment
  • appreciate taking over responsibility for your work and act proactive
  • are a team player always open to share all your knowledge with the team for the benefit and success of the institute
  • have good communication and language skills, English proficiency is mandatory, German or French is an advantage, you are familiar with European culture


Fixed-term employment contract: 2 years
