Research Fellow in Ammonia Fuel Cells University of Warwick School of Engineering United Kingdom

 

Full time (36.5 hours per week), 12 month fixed term contract. 

The School of Engineering, University of Warwick is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to work on an Innovate UK project on direct ammonia fuel cells to extract energy from wastewater. This is a Shanghai-UK industrial challenge programme which aims to develop a proto-type electrochemical device which can efficiently remove ammonia from ammonia-rich effluents and recover the energy from ammonia during the wastewater treatment process. 


The Research Fellow will develop new catalysts for direct ammonia fuel cells, demonstrate ammonia removal efficiency from wastewater using direct ammonia fuel cells. You will work closely with other researchers in the project team from both UK and China. You will write periodic reports and ensure that milestones are achieved, and you will present your work at relevant technical meetings. You will also engage in discussions and plan research activities. 


You will have a good research record including experience of developing research ideas, planning and conducting experiments, writing up findings for publication and presenting at conferences. You will have the ability to apply initiative, creativity and judgement in identifying areas for research and when interpreting research data. 


The successful candidate will have an Honours Degree and PhD (or PhD about to be obtained), or relevant experience in industry in a relevant subject i.e. chemical engineering, environmental engineering, chemistry, materials science and a very strong background in a relevant subject along with knowledge of electrochemistry and experience in polymer electrolyte fuel cells. You will have a good research record and a publication record in polymer membrane electrolyte fuel cells or related topics. You will also need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with a range of stakeholders and the ability to contribute to teaching and support students.
