Research Fellow in Experimental/Modelling of Soft Tribological SystemsAre you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in Tribology, Surfaces or Interfaces? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive Universities? This role is one of eight Research Fellow positions funded by a current Programme Grant in Tribology, which is running until the end of August 2023. You will join a vibrant research institute (Institute of Functional Surfaces) and be part of a project investigating the science of friction. You will work on a project that is developing novel experimental testing and modelling strategies to understand friction and wear of soft soft/poroelastic materials. The modelling work will build on existing codes developed earlier within the research programme. The project will integrate the understanding of highly deformable materials with the interaction of an active liquid in solid/poroelastic structures. Holding a PhD (or have submitted your thesis before taking up the role) in experimental tribology or numerical methods, ideally related to Tribology, you will have experience of developing advanced bespoke tribology tests and/or numerical models and an understanding of the challenges associated with modelling of soft tribological systems, together with a positive approach to collaborative research.
