Job Description

The Role

This is a career-defining opportunity at the heart of a department that promotes practice-based learning and interdisciplinary work with excellent facilities. Taking responsibility for the subject area of Engineering Design, CAD/CAM and Manufacturing, you'll co-ordinate a team of talented lecturers to deliver the vibrant, real-world education your students deserve. A natural leader and resource manager, you will also manage degree programmes, plan, deliver and assess a range of modules using a variety of technologies and approaches.

Research is, naturally, a key part of our make-up; you'll undertake your own research challenges, supervise PhD students, and develop proposals to producing outputs ripe for publication. Working side-by-side with talented colleagues you'll share knowledge and expertise through professional consultancy, pursuing opportunities that will generate profitable income and supporting students with valuable placements wherever possible.

The Person

You'll be holding a PhD or an equivalent professional qualification in Mechanical Engineering and bring with you a recognised teaching or learning qualification, as well as the potential and drive to rise to course leader position. If you haven't already achieved the relevant level of UKPSF recognition, we'll need you to do so before the end of your probation period. On a personal level, going above and beyond to deliver exceptional teaching and support to our students will be your core motivation. You will use your experience of working in engineering design, CAD/CAM and manufacturing to promote integrated professional practice across everything you do, imparting practical engineering design knowledge to students that they will take with them in their future careers.

The Faculty

School of Engineering and the Environment

We have a dedicated campus for our aerospace, aircraft and mechanical engineering courses at Roehampton Vale, on the outskirts of Kingston town centre and close to Richmond Park. Collaboration between academia and industry is integral to study at Kingston, and the delivery of courses is supported by the Industry Advisory Board and other professional bodies.

If there's one thing we stand for above all else at Kingston University's School of Engineering and the Environment, it's active, problem-based learning. In short, making sure our students leave us ready for the challenges of the 21st century. Our challenging curricula and outstanding facilities combine across two campuses to deliver undergraduate, postgraduate and research opportunities in civil engineering and construction, aerospace and aircraft engineering and mechanical and automotive engineering. Join us and you'll be part of an environment that prides its facilities – from concrete materials and geotechnical laboratories to global navigation satellite systems equipment and facilities for exploring fluid dynamics, engine testing and aerospace.
