for the chair of "Envir­on­mental Micro­bi­o­m­ics".

Work­ing field:

Teach­ing in the area of (micro-)bio­lo­gical fun­da­ment­als in the Bach­elor and Mas­ter envir­on­mental sci­ence and engin­eer­ing and spe­cific­ally func­tional aspects of the micro­biom of vari­ous envir­on­mental sys­tems. Fur­ther devel­op­ment of the cur­ricula in the respect­ive sub­jects. Classes have to be given in Ger­man as well as Eng­lish lan­guage.

Research in the area of func­tional fun­da­ment­als of micro­bi­o­mes of envir­on­mental sys­tems and the applic­a­tion thereof in envir­on­mental engin­eer­ing (effect of pol­lut­ants/stressors, treat­ment pro­cesses). Inter­dis­cip­lin­ary and cross-fac­ulty cooper­a­tion as well as par­ti­cip­a­tion in joint ini­ti­at­ives and aca­demic self-admin­is­tra­tion.
Pos­sible research top­ics are:
  • Exper­i­mental ana­lysis of micro­bi­o­mes of nat­ural sys­tems
  • Physiolo­gical char­ac­ter­iz­a­tion of envir­on­ment­ally rel­ev­ant microor­gan­isms
  • Effect of anthro­po­genic pol­lut­ants/stressors on micro­bi­o­mes of nat­ural sys­tems
  • Devel­op­ment of a mech­an­istic under­stand­ing of envir­on­mental sys­tems from molecu­lar obser­va­tions („envir­on­mental mul­tiom­ics“)
  • Applic­a­tion of envir­on­mental micro­bi­o­m­ics for research on eco­sys­tems, hygiene and treat­ment plants

Require­ments:

Essen­tial:
  • Can­did­ates must ful­fil the require­ments for appoint­ment at the pro­fessor level in com­pli­ance with § 100 Ber­lHG (Ber­lin Higher Edu­ca­tion Act), includ­ing a com­pleted aca­demic edu­ca­tion in a suit­able dis­cip­line, spe­cial achieve­ments in research (doc­tor­ate and addi­tional aca­demic achieve­ments), and ped­ago­gical-didactic qual­i­fic­a­tions, demon­strated by teach­ing exper­i­ence and visu­al­ized in a teach­ing port­fo­lio (for fur­ther inform­a­tion see TUB Web­site, quick access 144242)
  • Rel­ev­ant teach­ing exper­i­ence
  • Evid­ence of inde­pend­ent research in sev­eral of the above men­tioned top­ics
  • Exper­i­ence in attract­ing external fund­ing, and lead­ing third party-fun­ded pro­jects
  • Exper­i­ence in lead­ing a research group
  • Exper­i­ence with work­ing in inter­dis­cip­lin­ary and inter­na­tional teams
  • Estab­lished inter­na­tional research repu­ta­tion in the area of envir­on­mental micro­bi­o­m­ics and at least two above-men­tioned applic­a­tions (eco­sys­tems, hygiene and treat­ment plants), evid­enced by high-impact pub­lic­a­tions
Desired is also:
  • Exper­i­ence in ment­or­ing, pro­mo­tion of female research­ers and the area of equal oppor­tun­ity
  • For applic­ants without Ger­man lan­guage skills: a self-com­mittment to learn Ger­man within two years
  • Activ­it­ies related to sci­ence com­mu­nic­a­tion and tech­no­logy trans­fer
