University Teacher or University Lecturer in Mechanics

Fixed term, three years employment contract.


Job description

The main responsibility is teaching which is complemented with an agreed combination of research, service for scientific community and academic leadership. Responsibilities include instructing students, developing and planning curriculum and teaching together with professors and other teachers.


The primary duties of the open position is teaching courses Kontinuumimekaniikan perusteet (Foundations of Continuum Mechanics, starting on 28.10.2019) and Statiikka ja dynamiikka (Statics and Dynamics, starting in spring 2020), both given in Finnish. Other possible duties are teaching the bachelor level course Kiinteän aineen mekaniikan perusteet (Foundations of Solid Mechanics) in Finnish, the courses on mechanics of the English bachelor major Computational Engineering and the courses on applied mechanics in the English master level programmes Building Technology and Mechanical Engineering.


Depending on the research background of the appointed person, the position will be located at the Department of Civil Engineering or Department of Mechanical Engineering, in the research units Mineral-Based Materials and Mechanics, Solid Mechanics, Building Design and Construction or Marine Technology, for instance.



The person to be selected is required to have at least a master’s degree that gives a competence to teach the foundations of mechanics as well as solid and/or structural mechanics primarily in Finnish, evidence of success in teaching and ability to act as a team worker. A doctorate degree, pedagogical studies, research experience at international level, and interests in developing teaching are considered as an advantage.



The salary will be determined upon the competence and experience of the chosen person following the salary system applied at Aalto University.
