The Chair of Process Systems Engineering at the Technical University of Munich (location Wissenschaftszentrum Weihenstephan, Freising) is looking for a research assistant (m / f / d) with focus on image processing and modeling of filamentous microorganisms in bioprocesses from March / April 2019.

 

Requirement

Suitable applicants have good communication skills and great interest in interdisciplinary cooperation with cooperation partners as well as in image analysis and modeling of filamentous microorganisms. An above-average university degree in the subjects of process engineering / chemical engineering, biotechnology, computer-aided engineering or related fields is mandatory. Previous knowledge in mathematical modeling, the numerical solution of partial differential equations and / or in image analysis are advantageous.

 

tasks

Filamentous microorganisms are used in biotechnological processes for the production of antibiotics, organic acids and proteins. The morphology of filamentous microorganisms plays a crucial role in the production process and varies between disperse hyphae, small aggregates and larger pellets. In order to optimize production processes with filamentous microorganisms, a mechanistic modeling approach for their morphological evolution is pursued. For the comprehensive assessment of morphology, the department recently developed a 3D analysis method based on μ-computed tomography images. This should be expanded and improved. The project is being processed as part of a DFG priority program.
