Tenure-track Assistant Professor Position in Urban Environmental Resource Management (Solid Waste)

NTU's School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) aspires to be a leading school for Sustainable Urban Systems. Currently, it has over 60 faculty members and more than 1,500 students, and is rapidly expanding its range of educational and research activities. Its faculty has led major university-wide strategic research thrusts in space creation, water research and sustainable built environment. Going forward, CEE is addressing critical problems in urban systems such as building and energy systems, sustainability of urban cities, and resiliency to natural and unnatural risks.


To fuel further development, we invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Urban Environmental Resource Management (Solid Waste).


Candidates must have a PhD in Civil / Environmental / Mechanical / Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering/Technology, Environmental Biotechnology, or related fields, and a promising record of excellence in research as evidenced by strong publications in top tier international journals and research impacts. Expertise in one or more of the following specialized areas is highly desirable:


  • Waste/biosolid to high-value materials and energy

  • Hazardous waste management

  • Urban mining

  • Clean technologies for environmental resource management

  • LCA for sustainable management of environmental resources

  • New areas that address emerging environmental challenges of urbanization and cities of the future in circular economy.

Experiences in supervision of PhD students and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (e.g., environmental engineering, environmental management, solid waste management, hazardous waste management, environmental biotechnology, environmental chemistry, site remediation, industrial ecology, industrial technology, clean technology, life cycle assessment, resource management, environmental impact assessment, etc) are desired but not absolutely required. Work experiences in environmental industry and environmental agencies will be an added advantage.


The successful candidate is expected to work independently and jointly with other faculty members to attract funding in the relevant areas of research, and demonstrate an ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses related to environmental engineering
