On January 1st, 2017, Bergen University College, Sogn og Fjordane University College and Stord/Haugesund University College merged to form Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.


With about 16,000 students, it will be one of the largest higher education institutions in Norway. A broad range of academic programmes will be offered at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels.


Our ambition is to build stronger and more solid academic and research environments that will interact nationally and internationally. Professor in sustainable buildings


At Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Administration (AIØ), there is a vacant position as Professor in sustainable buildings.


The Faculty of Engineering and Administration (AIØ) has five engineering departments and one business administration department. It counts with approximately 3000 students and 180 academic employees. The advertised position is within the Department of Civil Engineering.


The Department of Civil Engineering has 30 permanent employees at present, of which 13 are professors or associate professors. The department conducts teaching and R&D work within a broad spectrum of civil engineering subjects. Today, the department has two bachelor’s programmes, in surveying and property design and in civil engineering on has one master’s program in urban planning. One working group at the department is working with sustainable buildings, where building physics, materials use, energy and indoor environment and building management are core competences.


Work tasks

The main tasks will be teaching, supervising and research at bachelor's, master's and doctoral level. As part of the college’s goal to achieve university status, it is a goal to create more master's degrees based on bachelor degrees. The advertised professorship will contribute to the development of a master's degree and a strengthening of research in sustainable buildings.



Employment as a professor requires a PhD in the field of engineering within one of the following topics: building physics, building services, building materials or building life cycle assessment. Documented academic expertise in accordance with established national and international standards for the professorship is required.


Expertise and/or experience in teaching and supervising will be considered assets. Should the successful candidate be lacking pedagogic qualifications attained through either education or experience with teaching and supervision, he or she will be required to take part in a course in higher education pedagogy within two years of appointment.


If there are no qualified candidates as a professor, an temporary employment as Assosiate Professor for up to 2 years can be considered jf. Universitets- og høgskolelovens § 6-5 and Statsansatteloven § 9. Qualification as Assosiate Professor must be documented.

The position remuneration is according to the state salary scale, code 1013 – Professor. Salary from pay grade NOK 611.700,-. From the salary will be deducted 2% deduction to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
