The Department of Mines, Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at Laval University ( ) is seeking applications for a regular position as a professor or professor in mining engineering. The Department is made up of a team of 15 professors who mentor approximately 300 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. The department offers several programs of study, including a bachelor's degree program and a graduate program in mining and mineral engineering and the equivalent in materials engineering and metallurgy.


Job Description

The candidate must have solid research expertise in the field of mining engineering, as well as relevant teaching experience. The selected candidate will be required to teach, as part of the three-year university programs, develop a funded and innovative research program in the field of mining engineering. The subject areas cover all aspects of mining in the context of deep mines or extreme conditions.


Selection criteria

The selected candidate must have a Bachelor's degree and a Ph.D. in mining engineering or a related field. The person must be a member of the Order of Engineers of Quebec (or a Canadian professional order of engineers) or take the necessary steps to become a maximum of two years after the date of taking office. Since teaching activities are conducted in French, the successful candidate must or will be able to express himself in writing orally in French, or take the necessary measures to become so within three years of the date of taking office. Candidates matching the description and meeting the qualifications of the position will be selected based on the following criteria:


  • Quality of the training;
  • Experience and potential in research, technology transfer and scientific management;
  • Experience and teaching potential;
  • Achievements in the field of mining in the context of deep mines or in extreme conditions
  • Adequacy of qualifications and experience in relation to the job description;
  • Potential for integration and synergy with the faculty in place.


Commitment and salary : Salary according to the collective agreement in force.
