DIGITAL MANUFACTURING, which can be filled on any level from assistant professor to tenured professor.


Job description


The position is located in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, see http://mecheng.aalto.fi/en/, in the Production Engineering group. The department conducts research in engineering related to mechanics and energy technology. The research in mechanics is organized under the following thematic research groups: Engineering Design, Engineering Materials, Production Engineering, Marine Technology, Solid Mechanics. Currently, the department has 30 professors together with lecturers, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral students, and technical staff. In total, the number of personnel is about 250. High-quality research facilities are available for e.g. 5-axis machining, 3D-printing, investment casting, and material characterization.


The Professor will strengthen research and education on integrated approach of developing and applying digitalization across a variety of topics in manufacturing technology. Relevant topics can include modelling, process measurement and control, quality control, and sustainability applied across a variety of manufacturing processes and methods.




Those in the academic tenure track system are expected to exercise and guide scientific research, to provide related higher academic education, to follow the advances of their field, to participate in service to the Aalto University community, and to take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field.


Applicants must have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline. The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research, teaching, academic leadership, and activity in scientific community. When recruiting for first term Assistant Professor position, the evaluation is mainly based on the potential of the candidate in the evaluated dimensions. When recruiting for second term Assistant Professor position, the evaluation is based on both merits and potential. Candidates recruited to the level of Associate or Full Professor must have high academic merits. The evaluation of applicants will be supported by bibliometric analyses using e.g. ISI Web of Science.


Applicants in all subfields of science of manufacturing are invited to apply. Industrial experience, leading a research group, and success in competitive research funding will be considered as an advantage.




Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities, but applicants may also provide salary requirements.
