A postdoc position on Bubble hydrodynamics, mass transfer and turbulence in stirred tanks with non-Newtonian fluids is available at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and technology. The position is financed by the FRINATEK project, Norwegian Research Council. The appointment of postdoc has a duration of 2 years.

Job description

The post doc fellowship in the FRINATEK project will experimentally investigate bubble hydrodynamics and interface mass transfer in stirred tanks with non-Newtonian liquids. Furthermore, the turbulence will be analyzed for single-phase flow by PIV/LDV and CFD techniques.


With the growing interest for industrial bio-processing in Norway and internationally, this project will provide an important contribution for design and operation of bio-reactors with non-Newtonian rheology.


It is expected that the candidate will spend a 3-6 month stay at a research institution in Europe, with possible corresponding extension of the position.



A background corresponding to a PhD in fluid mechanics, physics, chemical engineering, or comparable competence is preferred. The candidate should have excellent experimental skills and experienced with experimental techniques for gas-liquid multiphase flow analyses. In particular, knowledge of and experience with optical techniques (e.g. high-speed imaging) and PIV/LDV are highly advantageous. The candidate should have knowledge on the classical theory for gas-liquid multiphase flow and experience with CFD simulations (e.g. Fluent) is advantageous.

Terms of employment

The appointment of the Postdoc will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees.


NTNU’s personnel policy objective is that the staff must reflect the composition of the population to the greatest possible extent.


The position as Postdoc is remunerated according to the Norwegian State salary scale. There is a 2% deduction for superannuation contribution.
