Associate Professor in Human Factors (IV-111/18)

 

At the Department of Ocean Work Operations and Construction Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Norway's University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is the vacant position as Associate Professor in Human Factors. We specifically search for persons with expertise from maritime industry / offshore operations. The institute is based in Ålesund, and the work tasks are to be performed there.

 

The institute conducts education and research in the field of navy, shipping and shipping management, operational management, maritime logistics and related technology areas such as ship design and product and system design. It is currently employed approx. 80 people at the department.

 

The announced position will be associated with the Bachelor's Program in Shipping Management and the Master's Program in Management of Demanding Marine Operations. Employee will have particular responsibility for teaching and research in human factors.

 

 Work tasks will be:

• Teaching and supervision in the relevant field of study 
• Development of teaching materials 
• Initiation and / or participation in research and / or development tasks within current subject areas.

 

It is advised that teaching in particular at the Bachelor's program will take place in Norwegian.

 

The person employed in the position must be able to document comprehensive professional qualifications within essential parts of the subject area. He or she must also have documented scientific competence in one or more parts of the subject area with emphasis on the areas in which this post is particularly responsible. Emphasis will be placed on the ability to initiate and lead research and development work.

 

Qualification requirements for the position: 


• PhD degree within Human Factors, with special focus on maritime applications (ship bridge or engine room) 
• Relevant work experience in the development of control centers (ship bridge or engine room) 
• Special focus on experience in usability studies, human error, human-machine interaction , "User-centered" design 
• Programming experience (SQL, Powerbuilder etc.) 
• Relevant professional experience from maritime activities 
• Experience from teaching and guidance at university level.

 

Emphasis will be placed on pedagogical skills. The assessment will be based on documented pedagogical material, including educational education, the form of presentation in the scientific work, experience of PhD and master's thesis guidance and teaching as well as educational background of another kind. Quality and width will be considered.

 

Employees without formal university education skills who can not document equivalent qualifications are required to pass approved courses in university education within two years of accession. The university offers such courses.  

 

The most current applicants will usually be called for interview and for the testing of educational skills, usually as a lecture.

 

The employee shall be responsible for the professional responsibility with the Institute's other scientific staff. The person further commits to participate in the implementation of the teaching plan according to the current curriculum, and in the work on further development of the subject area and the teaching plan, including further and further education. He / she is going to guide bachelor and master students in their field of study, and is also required to take part in administrative work.

 

The employee must comply with the decisions regarding change that the development of the subject entails and the organizational changes that decisions regarding the university's activities may entail.

Salary according to the state wage regulation, code 1011 associate professor. Normal salary is gross NOK 558 500 - 860 500 per. year. Remuneration is assessed based on qualifications and seniority. From this, 2% of statutory deposits are deducted from the Government Pension Fund.
