Research Assistant/Associate in Quantum Dot Display Technology (Fixed Term) University of Cambridge, Department of Engineering United Kingdom

Research Assistant/Associate in Quantum Dot Display Technology (Fixed Term)

A position exists for a Research Assistant/Associate to design, fabricate and validate quantum dot-based HD Display Device Technology, as part of an academic-industrial collaborative project.

Colloidal Quantum Dots (cQD) are attracting significant interest as the key components for next-generation smart displays based on LED and electronics/optoelectronics because of their excellent and unique physical properties. This project will focus on QD-based display technology with cQD emissive layers and functional semiconducting nanomaterials. Candidates will be responsible for the design and the fabrication of the QD LED devices and their integration with backplane. This work will also involve a fundamental analysis and characterization of the materials and devices, and viable integration technology. This application in display technology has been driven by the high colour purity and brightness that photoluminescent (PL) cQD offer, as compared to traditional phosphors and OLED.

The main objective of this project is to explore ElectroLuminescence (EL)-based Quantum Dot Display characterised by:

  1. Development of scalable mono layer cQD film manufacturing process

  2. Design and fabrication of inorganic films for charge transport layers matching the energy level of emissive cQD film

  3. Development of integration and standardisation process and metrology to demonstrate a manufacturing proof of concept device consisting of a cQD EL device

The successful candidate will have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD or equivalent in materials science, electronics, chemistry, physics, or electrical engineering. They will have a proven track record of collaborating with experimental groups. They will have demonstrable knowledge and experience of experiment techniques in electronics, microfabrication and photonics.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

Salary Ranges:
Research Assistant: £25,728 - £30,688
Research Associate: £31,604 - £38,833

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 December 2020 in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
