Salary: £35,550 to £60,410 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience (minimum £50,618 as an Associate Professor). Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance

The University of Nottingham seeks applications for a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor in Sport and Exercise Engineering to undertake research in the area of human performance or sports engineering at the University and to contribute to teaching on the BSc in Sport and Exercise Science (to be launched in September 2018).

The appointment will be based within the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering and the role holder will take responsibility for the delivery of teaching and assessments to maintain high teaching standards in the BSc in Sport and Exercise Science (led by the School of Life Sciences) and other teaching in the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering as required.

Candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant subject area.They should have a track record of high quality publications and be able to undertake original research in the area of human performance or sports engineering in the context for instance of: exercise; health; ageing: or chronic disease.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Lead original research in sports engineering.
  • Publish high quality research papers in leading journals.
  • Write proposals to develop and manage new research programmes
  • Supervise postgraduate research students
  • Lead and support the development of teaching content for degree courses.
  • To examine the assessments for degrees and diplomas of the university. 

They must be able to demonstrate that they can:

  • Teach to a high standard, which includes:
  • Complying with the University of Nottingham teaching quality assurance standards and procedures.
  • Supervising practical work, including projects.
  • Coach and support tutorial groups, developing student knowledge and learning skills
  • Being responsible for the pastoral care of students within a specified area, dealing as necessary with sensitive issues.
  • To provide curriculum leadership within own area of expertise and to collaborate with colleagues to design course modules and/or programmes.

This role is a full-time permanent position. Job share arrangements may be considered for this post.
