DESCRIPTION

The DEPARTMENT of NUCLEAR ENGINEERING at the University of California, Berkeley is generating an applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach regular and Summer Session courses, should an opening arise. The percentage of the appointment will vary, depending on the number of sections taught. The positions may range from 11%-100% time in a given summer or semester. In addition to classroom/laboratory teaching and preparation, general duties may include (but are not limited to) managing and mentoring graders and/or graduate student instructors (teaching assistants), holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and maintaining course website. The full-time annual salary range is $60,419 - $150,645. Starting salary will be commensurate with degrees currently held, past college-level teaching experience and equity within the department.

Basic qualifications: A Master’s degree or equivalent degree in engineering is required at the time of application.

 

Additional qualifications: A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in an engineering discipline (or related field) is required by the start date of employment.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Prior teaching experience is preferred in one of the following fields: 1) Nuclear Physics, Nuclear Reactions and Nuclear Detection (NE 102, NE 101, NE 201, NE 104), 2) Radioactive Waste Management, Nuclear Fuel Cycle (NE 124, NE 224, NE 225), 3) Radiation Biological Effects, Dosimetry, Radiation Protection (NE 162, NE 262), 4) Radiation Transport, Reactor Physics (NE 150, NE 250, NE 155, NE 255), and 5) Engineering Thermodynamics (E 115).
