£36914 to £49553 per annum (pro-rata if applicable) depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

Applications are invited for the academic post of Assistant Professor in Optical Fibre Sensing at the University of Nottingham.


The post has been created to support and grow research activities in the development of new medical devices. The successful candidate will become a member of the Optics and Photonics Research Group.


Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent and post-doctoral academic research experience in Optical Fibre Sensing or a closely related subject.


It is essential that the candidate has experience in developing medical devices incorporating grating based optical fibre sensing and has worked in a multidisciplinary team involving clinicians and industry. It is anticipated that the devices will be evaluated with patients and so experience of EU medical device regulations is also essential.


The successful candidate will also contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, which will include lectures, tutorials and the supervision of project work.


The person appointed will be expected to apply for and obtain external funding to enable development of new and independent research. Good communication and organisation skills are essential.


This position is offered on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours). Job share arrangements may be considered.
