Assistant Professor in Traffic Safety

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Civil Engineering, a three-year assistant professor position is open for appointment. The position is available from 1st of December 2019 or soon hereafter. The Department of Civil Engineering focuses on the technical and scientific disciplines within civil engineering. Research areas span from Indoor Environment, Wind Turbines, Structural Design, Structural Materials, Geotechnical Engineering,Wave Energy to Food+Design along with many other areas. The research is conducted in a national as well as an international research environment. The Department takes on contract research for both public institutions and private companies. The research projects involve both theoretical research and in situ measurements along with laboratory experiments. The Division of Transportation Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering is offering an assistant professor position as part of the Transport Safety Research Group.


The position is expected to strength the division’s research and especially teaching capacity with special focus on the master education in Veje og Trafik (Roads and Traffic), the building engineering education with specialisation in Veje og Trafik (Roads and Traffic) and the bachelor education in Civil Engineering.


Beside the ability to deliver research-based teaching in the field of traffic safety, it is also expected, that the applicant can provide teaching on high level in other fields of traffic planning as bicycle planning as well as traffic models. When applying for the position the applicant should enclose documentation for these skills.


The research field of the assistant professor will be traffic safety in a broad sense, but with special focus on surrogate safety measures. The candidate preferably holds a master in transportation engineering and a PhD in Traffic Safety. The applicant’s research work is expected to contribute to the ongoing high international level of traffic safety research in the research group. The applicant must hold a driver license for cars (B). 


The successful applicant will, in collaboration with colleagues from the Division of Transportation Engineering, be actively involved in acquiring funds for research. This includes funds for theoretical research as well as funds for applied and strategic research activities. Ongoing research cooperation with external partners is seen as an advantage.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).   • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.

  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
