THE OPPORTUNITIES Colorado School of Mines (Mines) invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level with expertise and experience in one or more of the following areas: (1) Quantum Devices; (2) Quantum Systems; (3) radio-frequency, microwave, and millimeter-wave components, analog/mixed signal subsystems or high-speed integrated circuits; (4) photonic devices; with a strong focus on quantum-enhanced sensing and imaging, quantum communications, quantum networking, quantum information science, quantum computing architectures and applications such as cryptography, cybersecurity, and optimization.
The selected candidates will have the opportunity to leverage the resources available through the Mines Shared Instrumentation Facilities (SIF) and clean rooms for in-house prototype fabrication. Additionally, they will be encouraged to foster strong partnerships with industry and government agencies to drive domestic research and manufacturing of semiconductor technologies.
The state of Colorado has emerged as a leading hub for quantum technology. With a unique convergence of academic, governmental, and private sector resources in Colorado has led to a consortium, Elevate Quantum (https://www.elevatequantum.org/), which has recently secured federal and state support to help lead the US quantum technology efforts. Colorado's vibrant ecosystem in high-tech, coupled with government investment and collaborations between academia and industry, has already attracted many leading quantum companies and researchers to the area. Critical to achieving the Elevate Quantum vision is the Quantum COmmons, a 70-acre site owned by Mines and dedicated to advancing quantum technology.

Successful applicants will be able to collaborate through joint appointments, joint projects, shared students, etc. with the nearby National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), based in Golden, Colorado and the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder Colorado, only 20 miles away from Mines. Collaboration with other national laboratories and industries is also encouraged.

PAY RANGE Mines is offering an academic year salary rate of $102,300 - $116,700. This salary may be further supplemented during summer and winter research periods, using funds drawn from external grants or other sources. Mines takes into consideration a combination of the candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees. Research Statement: Candidates should describe how their research relates to and complements research activities and expertise at Mines, its expected scholarly and societal impact, its relevance to Mines’ goals (e.g., earth, energy, and environment), and current or future connections to industry and/or opportunities for entrepreneurship. Teaching Statement: Mines and the ME Department prides itself on strong, project-based course offerings that apply theoretical knowledge and engineering skills through classroom activities. Candidates should describe their pedagogical approach, how it reflects best practices in STEM education, and describe any teaching qualifications, including previous experience. Additionally, Mines is growing its online MS non-thesis degree programs. Candidates should highlight their in-person and hands-on teaching pedagogy and be prepared to describe any experience they have in online education.
