Assistant Professor of Electronic Engineering
University of Twente Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science
Netherlands

We stand for life sciences and technology. High tech and human touch. Education and research that matter. New technology which leads change, innovation and progress in society. The UT is the only campus university of the Netherlands; divided over five faculties we provide more than fifty educational programs. We have a strong focus on personal development and talented researchers are given scope for carrying out groundbreaking research.

The EEMCS faculty comprises three disciplines that shape Information and Communication Technology. ICT is more than communication. In almost every product we use mathematics, electronics and computer technology contributing to all of societies' activities. The faculty works together intensively with industrial partners and researchers in the Netherlands and abroad and conducts extensive research for external commissioning parties and funders. The research, which enjoys a high profile both at home and internationally, has been accommodated in the multidisciplinary research institute MESA+ and Technical Medical Centre. MESA+ is one of the largest nanotechnology research institutes in the world, delivering competitive and successful high-quality research. It uses a unique structure, which unites scientific disciplines, and builds fruitful international cooperation to excel in science and education. The institute employs 500 people of which 275 are PhD’s or PostDocs. With its brand new NanoLab facilities the institute holds 1250 m2 of cleanroom space and state-of-the-art research equipment. MESA+ has an internationally appealing and multidisciplinary approach by combining physics, electrical engineering, chemistry, materials science and mathematics.

Job description

Within the faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science (EEMCS), the research group BIOS, Lab on a chip group is looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic Assistant Professor (f/m) focusing on lab on chip systems.

The BIOS lab on a chip group is embedded in the MESA+ technical medical centre institutes, as well as the Max Planck Center for Complex Fluid Dynamics. In this group, the aim is at understanding and utilizing new micro- and nanofluidic phenomena and new nanosensing principles and incorporating these in Lab on a Chip and Organ on Chip systems for biomedical and sustainability applications. It is our mission to:

  • further the knowledge and understanding of nanofluidics and nanosensing, with a focus on physico/electrochemical aspects
  • investigate new sensing concepts including quantumsensing using nanofabricated structures and devices
  • bridge the gap between nanotechnologists and Lab-on-Chip users from physical, chemical, medical and life-sciences
  • translate new knowledge and technologies to medical and sustainable applications to have societal impact
We believe that Lab on a Chip and Organ on Chip systems will play a meaningful role in solving future societal needs, both in the areas of healthcare (medical devices for patients, professionals and researchers) as well as for sustainable development (e.g environmental monitoring, clean water, efficient energy generation and storage and negative CO2 emission).

Your profile

  • You hold a PhD in biomedical engineering, nanotechnology, applied physics, electrical engineering or material sciences promoted on a relevant topic in lab on a chip, microfabrication, (bio)sensors in microfluidic systems, organ-on-chip and/or signal analysis
  • You have proven expertise in the development of microfluidic systems, microfabrication and/or rapid prototyping, know how to work in a biological lab and you have experience in working in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • You have excellent communication skills and experience with academic teaching.
  • You are a great teammate, but also have a high degree of responsibility and independence.

INFORMATION AND APPLICATION

Please send your application before 30 April 2020 using the 'Apply now' button, and include:
