Position Overview

The Mining Engineering Department at Colorado School of Mines invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor to support the delivery of the ABET-accredited BS program in Mining Engineering. The department encourages innovation in teaching and has developed effective methods of instruction from introductory through advanced levels. The successful candidate will join a faculty of 13 full-time members and support courses in the core undergraduate curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver undergraduate courses and associated labs (up to 12 credit-hours per semester), using evidence-based instructional practices. Courses may include rock mechanics, surface and underground mine design, and mineral processing.

• Lead course and curriculum development, including updating course materials, aligning learning outcomes, developing instructional labs/assignments, and supporting program assessment and ABET accreditation.

• Mentor and advise undergraduate students; supervise and mentor teaching assistants.

• Contribute to department, university, and professional communities through service consistent with a teaching-focused appointment.

• Develop and teach graduate courses as needed.

• Participate in assessment, accreditation, and program evaluation processes.

• Engage with industry partners and stakeholders to enhance teaching and program objectives.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Mining Engineering or a closely related field.

• Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate or professional courses in mining engineering or related disciplines.

• Ability to contribute to undergraduate teaching, curriculum development, and assessment.

• Collaborative work experience with faculty, staff, and students.

• Ability to support and mentor students.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching undergraduate, graduate, and professional courses.

• Experience supervising or mentoring teaching assistants.

• Experience with curriculum coordination, accreditation, or program assessment.

• Relevant industry or practical experience in mining or related engineering fields.
