The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) provides a unique platform that contributes to critical intellectual debates on Islam in a global context, through its blended academic programs and an immersive learning experience; as well as its distinguished research division, which includes several research centers and clusters.

Position

To contribute to the teaching and academic strengths of the M.Sc. Program in Islamic Art, including the pursuit of research funding and publication in high-standing peer-reviewed academic journals.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Ph.D. degree from an accredited university as required for teaching in the field of architecture and urbanism.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience in research, professional practice, or a combination of closely related areas in industry (additional years of professional experience may be required to show equivalency), with evidence of increasing professional maturity and productivity.
  • Evidence of proficiency in interdisciplinary research Islamic history of art and aesthetics of the Muslim World; research and scholarly achievements judged competent and adequate for the rank of assistant professor in comparison with peers active in the same field at major research universities.
  • The candidate will teach and conduct research on issues related to the built environment, such as climate, infrastructure, policy, public space and social justice, territorial research, or housing. All candidates should have interest in and capacity for collaboration with other academic disciplines at HBKU.
  • The candidate will teach Architectural History; Cosmological Thought and Architecture in the Middle East; Topics on Urban Form, Patterns and Aesthetics of Architecture, and Criticism and Discourse; Architectural Design Research Studio; Architectural History Theory and Criticism History; Survey of Urban History.
  • The candidate will demonstrate excellent writing skills with the ability to communicate fluently and to articulate ideas clearly and concisely in English language (Arabic proficiency will be an asset).
  • The candidate must have proficiency in MS Office applications.

Additional Requirements

  • Conduct assigned courses and seminars.
  • Supervise theses and serve as an advisor to students.
  • Serve on college committees.
  • Render services to the professional or lay community.
  • Conduct research or undertake comparable scholarly activity.
  • Seek funding support for research.
  • Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the college.
