Position Overview The Mechanical Engineering Program in the College of Science and Engineering invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Engineering Design. Outstanding candidates with exceptional research and academic records may be considered at the Associate Professor level. We particularly encourage applicants with expertise in: Data-driven and AI-augmented design methods Model-based design for complex products Human-centered, bio-inspired, and sustainable/circular design Design for smart and resilient systems Design for reliability, safety, and high performance under extreme conditions Integrated virtual-physical design workflows Candidates advancing innovative engineering design education through project-based learning, multidisciplinary design experiences, and entrepreneurship-oriented curricula are strongly encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering and engineering design. Develop a strong, externally funded research program in engineering design. Engage in interdisciplinary collaborations and partnerships within CSE and HBKU. Collaborate with industry and government stakeholders to advance Qatar’s national priorities. Contribute to curriculum development by integrating modern design tools. Supervise undergraduate and graduate students, including senior design projects and capstone teams. Mentor postdoctoral researchers. Provide service to the division, college, university, and profession through committees and initiatives. Contribute to the broader research and innovation ecosystem at HBKU. Qualifications Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in higher education, research institutions, or industry (additional experience required for Associate Professor rank). Demonstrated scholarly record, including publications in high-impact journals. Evidence of strong commitment to teaching excellence and curriculum development.
