About us

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Department of Engineering (DoE) is an interdisciplinary group, active in the domains of civil, electrical and mechanical engineering. The main focus of research is on the development of technological solutions, digitalization and the sustainable and economical use of resources, the offer of competences for the technological requirements of Luxembourg’s and the Greater Region’s industrial and public actors. Beyond the capacities for experimental, laboratory investigations, special emphasis is given to numerical simulation. Nearly all research projects combine an applied and a fundamental scope and are supported by a network of national and international public and industrial research institutions. Within the University, DoE cooperates across faculties and with the interdisciplinary centres: Security and Trust (SnT), Luxembourg Centre for Systems Medicine (LCSB) and the Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH).

Your role

Digitalization is rapidly advancing within production technology, primarily fuelled by the automation and robotization of production processes. In addition, technological advances in the context of artificial intelligence are opening up completely unexplored areas. The Faculty of Science, Technology, and Medicine (FSTM) is seeking to hire a candidate with an excellent international track record in Advanced Manufacturing. The ideal candidate will establish a globally recognized research program showcasing expertise in domains such as:

  • Sustainable production
  • Innovative production systems and materials
  • Integrated production management
  • Virtual technologies in manufacturing
  • Automation and Robotics

The candidate should be open to interdisciplinary collaborations with both academic and industrial partners.

Your profile

The successful candidate should exhibit high scholarly achievements in research and enthusiasm for engineering education; we expect the candidate to have:

  • A Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • A strong track record in research
  • Experience in acquiring and managing research projects
  • Experience in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels
  • Good presentation, communication, organisational and management skills

Language requirements:
The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual context. The person hired for this position must be proficient in English and either French or German. The University encourages its staff to learn the other language and provides access to language courses to this end.

This position is offered at the Associate Professor or Assistant Professor level, depending on qualification. At the Associate Professor level, the position is tenured. At the Assistant Professor level, promotion is possible after 5 years upon positive evaluation and the position may be tenured or not.
