The Faculty of Engineering would like to nominate a woman or an individual who identifies as a gender minority internal to the Faculty for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair. This opportunity is open only to current Assistant and Associate Professors of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Alberta, as well as to newly appointed Assistant and Associate Professors who will take up their appointments prior to April 1, 2025. To achieve a balanced distribution of chairs between departments, applications from the following departments will be considered: Biomedical Engineering, Chemical and Materials Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

Tier 2 CRCs are intended for exceptional emerging researchers (i.e., candidates must have been an active researcher in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination). Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 Justification Process. 2. Submit your CV along with a 3-page document in one file that includes the following elements:
   • A description of how you meet the following criteria for chairholders:
     • be excellent emerging world-class researchers who have demonstrated particular research creativity;
     • have demonstrated the potential to achieve international recognition in their fields in the next five to ten years;
     • as chairholders, have the potential to attract, develop and retain excellent trainees, students and future researchers; and
     • is proposing an original, innovative and high-quality research program.

• A description of how your work aligns with the University of Alberta’s Strategic Plan for Research and Innovation. It should also outline your plans for your research program during the anticipated tenure of the chair.
• A description of how best practices in HQP supervision will be enacted, including EDI considerations.
