Position description

INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY:

The College of Engineering at the University of California, Davis, is recruiting internally for a full-time faculty member to serve as the holder of the Edward Teller Chair. As stipulated in the revised (2008) endowment agreement, a nationally recognized faculty member shall be appointed to the Edward Teller Chair in the College of Engineering without regard to administrative position or department and the faculty member appointed shall have outstanding academic skills, leadership qualities, and a nationally recognized record of applied scientific accomplishment. Distributions from the endowment will be made available for travel, supplies, equipment and other expenses (e.g., student support) related to research and teaching. The appointment will be reviewed every 5 years per regularly established University procedures for endowed chair/professorship appointments (APM 191, UCD 191). It is expected that the holder will advance appropriately through the faculty ranks on the basis of their scholarly activities, teaching and University and public service.

The holder will have the following responsibilities:
• Engage in teaching and scholarly activities in engineering
• Provide leadership and be fully engaged in the holder's Department(s)
• Enhance the academic and intellectual life of the campus as a whole
• Provide an annual report to the Dean of the College of Engineering on activities supported by the endowment

Review of applications will begin on November 22, 2022; the position will remain open until filled. Applicants must submit the complete set of nomination materials by November 22, 2022 for full consideration.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• Be an existing tenured full professor (100% appointment) in the UC Davis College of Engineering with a nationally recognized record of applied scientific accomplishment of demonstrable quality and impact (0% WOS additional appointment in another College is acceptable).
• Strong linkage between the candidate's research and the College's Strategic Research Vision https://engineering.ucdavis.edu/engineering-research.
• Demonstrated leadership and engagement in campus & professional activities.
• Plan for use of the endowment funds (currently est. ~$50,000/year).
