The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the School of Engineering at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey seeks to fill two openings in Fall 2021 for full-time, academic year, tenure-track faculty appointments. It is anticipated that these openings will be at the Assistant Professor level, but exceptional midcareer candidates will also be given consideration.

Diversity and inclusion are a key foundational element of the University’s Strategic Plan and the School of Engineering is fully committed to building a faculty of individuals from diverse backgrounds. Diversity may include, but is not limited to, race, ethnicity, gender and gender identity, age, religion, language, disability status, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and geographic region. Because broad attention to diversity is essential to an inclusive climate and critical to the University’s goals of achieving excellence in all areas, we will holistically assess the many qualifications of each applicant and favorably consider an individual’s record working with students and colleagues with broadly diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds in educational, research or other work activities. Applicants who can contribute to this diversity through their teaching, research, or service are particularly encouraged to apply.

Hiring areas for this search are: (i) autonomous systems and robotics, including but not limited to networked control systems, learning and control in autonomous systems such as vehicles or drones as well as in assistive technologies, and human-robot interaction; (ii) information, networks, security and privacy, including learning, mobile networking, and edge cloud computing.

Excellent facilities are available for collaborative research opportunities with local industry through the School’s nationally recognized centers such as the Wireless Information Network Laboratory (WINLAB), the Micro-nanofabrication and Characterization Facility, and the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT). There also exist collaboration opportunities at Brookhaven National Laboratory and with clinicians at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS).

A Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field is required. All new members of the School of Engineering faculty are expected to develop a research program and obtain external funding to support it. Candidates will work in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment and must be willing to engage in existing and future large collaborative research endeavors. A commitment to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels is expected. Demonstrated ability in written and oral use of the English language is required. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to diversity.

Qualified candidates should submit a CV, contact information for three references, a teaching philosophy, a research statement, and a statement on plans or accomplishments in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (i.e. diveristy statement).
