is seeking outstanding candidates for a


TENURE-TRACK POSITION IN MATERIALS ENGINEERING


Applications are invited for an exceptional candidate in the area of Materials Engineering in the
Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, effective July 1, 2020 or as
soon as possible thereafter. The successful applicant will receive a Probationary (tenure-track)
appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The rank will be commensurate with the
successful applicant's qualifications and experience in teaching and research.


We seek an energetic and dynamic colleague who will be able to positively contribute to both teaching
and research efforts in the Department in the area of materials engineering. All specialties within the
broadly defined area of materials engineering will be considered, including: energy materials, photovoltaic
materials, nanomaterials, composite materials, mechanical properties of materials, among others, studied
by theoretical, computational and/or experimental methodologies.


For a probationary appointment, successful candidates will have completed a PhD degree in Mechanical
or Materials Engineering, or relevant similar field, demonstrate excellence or clear promise of excellence
in research, including evidence of high quality scholarly output that demonstrates independent research
potential leading to peer assessed publications and the securing of external research funding. The
candidate should provide evidence of teaching at the university level and will be expected to teach a
variety of introductory and advanced mechanical engineering undergraduate and graduate courses,
including courses on materials, industrial materials, energy materials, composite materials and/or
mechanical properties of materials. In addition, the candidate will be expected to supervise graduate
students and participate in other educational and professional activities including administrative duties
within the Department, Faculty and University. He/she will also be strongly encouraged to build
collaborations with other researchers in MME and in other Departments and Faculties across campus.
Registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is required for this appointment.

and manufacturing, mechatronics, robotics, sensors, controls, materials, solid mechanics, and thermofluids. Western Engineering is home to nine leading research institutes and centers such as the
Fraunhofer Project Centre for Composites Research and the Institute for Chemicals and Fuels from
Alternative Resources as well as university research infrastructure including special facilities: nanofabrication laboratory, Surface Science Western, and the Wind Engineering, Energy and Environment
(WindEEE) Dome.
