The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) is seeking an Instructor with a record of excellence in the field of ­­­technical systems management with an emphasis in off-road equipment management. This 49 percent, part-time, non-tenure track faculty position is on a 9-month service basis. This Instructor will primarily be responsible for providing instruction in courses focused on ­­­Technical Systems Management (TSM) as well as developing and teaching a new course on optimization of engineering technology and management. This position will also assist with the TSM Task Force. A commitment exists to fund this position for up to two years, with the potential for permanent funding if enrollment growth is seen in the program.

An earned master’s degree in Technical Systems Management or related field is required. At least one year of experience in each of the following areas is strongly preferred: teaching at the college level, developing online course material, and research related to precision agriculture. Also preferred is relevant industry experience.


  • Teach undergraduate Technical Systems Management (TSM) courses.
  • Assist with TSM Task Force.
  • Focus on developing and teaching a new course on optimization of engineering technology and management.

About the Department of Agricultural & Biological Engineering:

The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is highly ranked, with 20 tenure-track faculty members, approximately 325 undergraduate students in two majors, and 78 graduate students. The department is one of seven academic units within the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES), and is also part of the Grainger College of Engineering (GCOE).  As part of the land grant mission, the ABE department conducts mission-oriented research and outreach in strategic areas related to food, energy, water, and the environment. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Technical Systems Management (TSM) and ABE. The undergraduate and graduate programs in TSM are administered through the College of ACES. The undergraduate program in ABE is administered through both the College of ACES and the GCOE; the M.S. and Ph.D. programs in ABE are administered through the GCOE.
